About Us
The Vos family first began operating a business in the late 1950’s in Deloraine Tasmania.
This where Roelf Vos opened his first gift store which was soon followed by a second one in Georgetown. However, Roelf quickly decided food was a better option so he changed his focus to a corner milk bar in Launceston. It didn’t take Roelf long to transform this small corner store into his first self-service supermarket, the success of which prompted him to grow the business into a chain of supermarkets which by 1982 was employing over 500 people. That was the year Roelf decided to sell his supermarket operations to Woolworths and in 1983 he began the development of the Grindelwald Swiss Village and Holiday Resort together with his eldest son Michael. His second son Harry joined the team in 1989.
Following Roelf’s passing in 1992 the family decided to expand their property development and building interests and did other projects. Then in June 1997 they acquired “Laver” one of Tasmania’s leading construction companies. That company now trades as Vos Construction & Joinery Pty Ltd www.vosconstruction.com.au
